| With
thousands of packaging components in dozens of foreign languages,
Wyeth's Global Packaging Services has their hands full. Thanks to
Global Vision, the task of detecting artwork errors isn't nearly as
difficult as it once was. |
“Over
the last 10 years of working with Global Vision, we realized
significant benefits and financial savings. Global Vision has helped us
implement better methods for detecting errors before they become
costly. They're extremely knowledgeable when it comes to securing the
artwork packaging workflow.”
Associate Director,
Global Packaging Services, Wyeth
For
Wyeth’s Global Packaging Services department, ensuring the most
efficient and accurate artwork workflow process is always a top
priority. In pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, there are
thousands of packaging components each year being produced in a
multitude of languages. Now stand back and imagine how difficult it
must be to keep track and ensure the accuracy of all these
components. Especially when there are numerous individuals and
departments involved in revisions, approvals and quality control
checks.
As a global leader in the
pharmaceutical industry, Wyeth utilizes Global Vision’s solutions to
help reduce the risk of errors from occurring at key stages throughout
the artwork workflow process. As a customer for over a decade, Wyeth
has adopted and benefited from this type of technology early on.
Currently, there are over 20 Global Vision systems implemented in North
America, Asia, and Europe.
A closer look at how Wyeth’s artwork workflow has improved with Global Vision’s Automated Proofreading Solutions….
Former Artwork Process
- 100% manual proofreading
- Complete paper-based process
- Slow & cumbersome process, especially during new launches
- Risk of errors greater due to process
Benefits from Current Artwork Process
- Reduction in cycle time & errors
- Insert reviews reduced from 4 hours to ½ hour
- Approval process streamlined
- Errors detected earlier than later
- Reduction in total proofreading time & number of “inspection passes” required
- Streamlined & simplified foreign language proofing process

Everyone involved in the recent Braille regulations for pharmaceutical
cartons is asking the same million dollar question.
“How can we prevent Braille errors on cartons from occurring in a cost-effective manner?”
The
European directive has mandated that pharmaceutical manufacturers
include Braille on medical cartons. New quality control measures to
ensure the accuracy of materials in Braille are being put into effect.
Currently, the “inspections” or “proofreadings” are being performed
manually “dot by dot”. However, relying solely on the human eye to
prevent errors has made this a laborious and time consuming task.
As
a result, Global Vision has integrated Braille inspection capabilities
into all of our content verification solutions. The Braille detection
technology has been designed to work in both hardcopy and electronic
environments. The technology detects differences in Braille in the same
way it detects all changes such as color, missing or added text. For
example, it will clearly identify and flag a missed, added or moved
dot.

For hardcopy inspections, the scanned Braille carton is converted and then compared to the "master" Braille file. |
